Pugs are one of the oldest breeds known to man that were once well-regarded residents of Imperial palaces. Here are some pet Pug facts that you might find interesting:

Pug has their original source in China & then they breed in Tibet(A state of China)around 700BC. But finally they spread to Japan and Europe

Pugs were loved by royalty and even Napoleon’s wife, Josephine, had a pet Pug which she used to smuggle notes to Napoleon while she was imprisoned.

Pet Pugs were the constant companions of William Prince of Orange. On one occasion, one of his pugs saved his life. In 1572, William was awoken one night by his barking pug, just as the Spaniards neared Hermingny.

William Hogarth was a famous painter and a Pug owner, so many of his paintings featured the Pug. Many other painters have used the Pug as their subject also.

Shortly after the Civil War, Pugs were introduced to the United States. Twenty years later, the breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club in the year 1885.

Pug Facts For Care And Grooming:

Even though the coat of the Pug isn’t long, it requires regular grooming to maintain gloss and to keep skin healthy.

It is extremely important to cleanse any dirt in the creases of the Pug’s folds to prevent infections.

Due to the genetics of these Pugs, their faces are wide with protruding eyes. This in turn serves as a reminder for the owner to provide a food/water bowl that is measured as wide and shallow, so that the Pug will not damage its eye on the bowl’s sides.

Every dog, no matter the breed, will require dental care. Specifically referring to Pugs, their teeth should be brushed at least several times a week, followed up by yearly visits to the veterinarian for dental scalings.

Smaller dogs still require daily exercise, so make sure you and your Pug get into the healthy habit of walking each day!
